How to get an image for your Business Card.

Getting started...

You need an image that belongs to you. That could be a logo you have drawn or printed, a photograph of yourself or a photograph of your work. You must own copyright to the original document, whatever it is.

Creating the file...

Make a digital image file of your print or photograph. There are several methods of transforming your document into a digital file:

1. Use a scanner connected to your computer. This requires access to and familiarity with the appropriate hardware and software. Not for everyone. You might find these sites helpful if you need to learn more about scanning: <http://www.kotev.co.il/scantips.htm> <http://www.scantips.com/>

2. Ask a friend who owns a computer and a scanner to scan the file for you and hopefully to follow through and prepare the file for you as well.
3. Take your document to a business that offers scanning services or a local digital graphic designer. You may need to take in your own diskette. This option can be costly.

Preparing the file...

Prepare the digital image file to send to canadaart.INFO. After you scan an image it may need to be touched up and/or cropped to gain the desired effect for your Business Card. If you are having someone else prepare the file then make sure you give them the specifications listed below.

The final copy of the file you send to us needs to meet with the following specifications:

3" X 3"
72 dpi
.jpg or .gif format - no animation or sound

The resulting file should be stored on a diskette (the original) and again on a second diskette (the backup). If you want to send the file by Canada Post rather than attached to an email message, then copy the file onto a third diskette. Make sure you keep your original diskette and your backup diskette in a safe place, in the event that the third diskette is lost in the process of sending it to us, you will have another copy to work with.

Sending us the file...

Send By Email
You can send your file as an attachment to an email message addressed to image@canadaart.INFO. The Subject line should be the name of the file you are sending, xxx.jpg or xxx.gif. Be sure to put your name in the body of the message, it must be identical to the name you provided on the Registration Form.

Send By Canada Post
You can send your file on a diskette by Canada Post. Use the third diskette for this purpose. Make sure your name and the name of the file are both printed on the label of the diskette. Diskettes can be quite sensitive to damage, make sure that you have your original and backup diskettes in a safe place and that you properly pack the third diskette for shipping. Check with your nearest Canada Post Office for advice on the best way to safely send a diskette through the mail. We do not take responsibility for lost or damaged diskettes.
